Gate One is thrilled to announce the promotion of Scott Ellis to Partner. His deep experience in business and digital transformation, particularly in Retail, represents Gate One’s commitment to solving businesses’ problems – now and in the future.

Since joining Gate One in 2021, Scott has combined his passion for building lasting human relationships with clients and supporting the development of our consulting team. He’s been a driving force in expanding our Retail sector, working closely with clients to develop innovative, people-centric transformative solutions.

Scott has been key in launching and growing our Irish office within Havas Village Dublin. He’s developed our employee value proposition for the market and is committed to providing all of our consultants a stretching and rewarding career experience where they can do their best work.

Ben Tye, Managing Partner said: “I’m delighted to welcome Scott to the partner team. Not only is he a recognised expert in his field, his strategic vision and ability to inspire those around him will be a fantastic asset to our leadership team. I look forward to seeing his continued positive impact on Gate One, our colleagues and clients.”

As a Gate One Partner, Scott will continue to lead our Retail sector, drive key client relationships and engagements, and support our global growth ambitions.

To celebrate Scott’s promotion, we asked some quick-fire questions about his journey, retail trends and what to do in Dublin! Here’s what he had to say.

Scott, you have had an interesting career to date. How are feeling about your new role as Partner?

I’m thrilled to join the partnership – it’s the pinnacle moment in my career and it has been a hugely enriching journey in getting to this point. I started in consultancy, then spent several years leading digital transformation within a large retail brand operator in the Middle East. Off the back of that and in moving back to Ireland, I felt I had more to offer consultancy. With the opportunity to help launch a Gate One office in Ireland I felt that we were bringing a differentiated consultancy proposition to the market. And personally, I’m delighted that Gate One has enabled me to support the needs of retail clients across the UK and Ireland.

What key trends are shaping the future of retail at this time? What role do you see Gate One playing?

The retail landscape is evolving rapidly, driven by changing consumer behaviours, technological advancements and economic realities. We are helping our clients face into these challenges, responding in tailored, contextual ways that play to – or create – unique strengths that align to current and emerging customer preferences. Looking forward, Gate One will play a leading role in enabling business leaders understand the true power in the data they have and to select and embed new capabilities that create market and consumer winning strategies.”

What are you most excited about this year?

On a personal level, a long-planned trip to the UAE and Bali with my wife and daughters where we will reconnect with relatives from Australia and friends from our former home of Dubai! On a professional level, I am hugely excited for the new experiences, new interactions, and new challenges that lie ahead. A standout example is that this year, Gate One is sponsoring the World Retail Congress where our clients and other C-suite executives from some of retail’s most inspiring businesses will come together for innovative, groundbreaking strategy and insights.

What advice would you give to those wanting to develop their leadership skills?

At Gate One, I am hugely thankful to be working with an exceptionally talented group, with enormous passion for driving meaningful change for our clients. I would say to anyone in consulting that it is important that we balance leaning into our clients’ needs and organisational priorities with paying attention to ourselves as individuals, our goals, managing our time well, and continuing to hone skills on working smarter. And one of the benefits of being part of a consultancy rather than an independent consultant is that you are never going it alone. To help you get to where you want to be, think about the people around you who can help you on your leadership journey. Share your ambition, listen for advice, take action and then pivot if and when you’re not getting the results you want. It’s never a straight line for anyone, there are plenty of paths and there are support mechanisms to activate if you get clear on your desired destination.

Finally, what are your recommendations for someone visiting Dublin for the first time?

Well firstly, I can tell you to expect a warm welcome, gorgeous scenery, fun and friendly locals, a relaxed atmosphere … and a lot of rain! Dublin is extremely walkable, as its’s very compact and mostly flat. From then on in, you might as well make like a tourist and visit the Book of Kells at Trinity College (my own alma mater) in the morning and the Guinness Storehouse in the afternoon, the home of Ireland’s most iconic beer. Everything else you can figure out along the way – or ideally, you’ll meet some locals who will show you a great time!
