Change and transformation in the private sector
Gate One was shortlisted as a finalist at the MCA Awards 2024 in the ‘Change and Transformation in the Private Sector’ category for our transformation work on both the GSK and Haleon de-merger and transforming Motability Operation’s technology function.
GSK/Haleon
Challenge
- The GSK Consumer Heath Separation programme kicked off in 2020.
- The demerger needed to cause minimal disruption to ongoing business activities, while maintaining flexibility on the timing to maximise opportunities from market conditions.
- Facilitating a smooth transition for employees and other stakeholders was key.
- Gate One worked closely with GSK functions over two years to scope, mobilise and deliver this complex and high-profile transformation.
Solution
- Provided strategic advisory and complex programme delivery expertise across several key workstreams – ranging from data disposition and a new brand launch to policy separation and change management.
- Took opportunities to establish simpler governance structures, new behaviours and a distinct identity to foster product innovation and increased speed to market.
- Distinguished ourselves through our expert knowledge, collaborative approach and ability to problem-solve complex issues, as the go-to resource to tackle challenging situations.
Impact
- Guided GSK through the separation to deliver two world-leading companies on time and with minimal disruption to either business.
- GSK has subsequently exceeded market expectations. Haleon – listed on the London Stock Exchange at a £30.5bn valuation in July 2022 – is now a globally recognised brand delivering strong organic growth.
- Enabled Haleon to embark on a new chapter of growth and innovation, setting the stage for enduring success in the consumer health industry, by ‘delivering better everyday health with humanity’.
Motability
Challenge
- Motability Operations identified a need to transform the organisation’s technology function and operating model, particularly as it relied heavily on legacy systems and people resources, lacking agility and having limited digital focus.
Solution
- Uncovered the challenges facing Motability’s technology function.
- Our work revealed the absence of an overarching ‘North Star’ for the function.
- Co-designed and co-implemented a new strategic vision and operating model for them in less than 12 months.
- Used a blended, small team approach, embedded ourselves within the business, engaged client-side leads for each workstream and maintained open lines of communication.
Impact
- MO’s technology function is now well positioned to respond quickly to ever-changing market forces and trends, as well as meet customers’ needs, better supporting MO’s purpose of ‘supporting people with disabilities to achieve greater independence, by giving them access to affordable, worry-free mobility’.
- Significant financial, strategic, people and efficiency benefits for the business, and an environment that encourages innovation, creativity and agile thinking.
- Increased speed to market, better employee engagement, improved customer satisfaction, digital touchpoints and accessibility.
- More collaborative ways of working within the function and across the wider business, as well as new processes and governance structures.
Our vision is to create a firm where you can do your best work and collectively deliver meaningful change for our clients.
