A major global retailer had urgent challenges in the way they governed, managed and used data. There was a confusing technology landscape, a lot of manual processes and, as a result, a general lack of trust in the data being used to make strategic decisions. To address this, we were asked to help design and stand up a scalable data capability.
We worked with the client to build consensus around a data vision and strategy, along with a tailored set of standards to guide how data should be managed and used. To show that these standards really worked, we applied them to two existing reports – first visualising the flow of data through the organisation to show the pain points, then working with end-users to design and implement improved architecture, governance and data-centric ways of working.
We have reset the foundation of the new data landscape and successfully raised awareness of data ownership. As the results of our initial work become clear, the client has asked us to embed this proven approach more widely and we continue to support them in achieving their data ambitions.
”Great progress is being made on the vision, strategy and standard and we are already starting to see the benefits and transparency this is bringing.
